As founder of Steel Dynamics, Inc. (SDI), Keith Busse is an international leader in the steel industry.  He is also a true friend of Fort Wayne and northeast Indiana by his commitment of time, talent and treasure to local universities and to many charitable organizations.  Keith serves on the Board of Trustees at his alma mater, the University of Saint Francis (USF), and at Trine University in Angola. He also serves on the Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne Athletic Board of Directors. All the public and private universities in the area have benefited from substantial funding from Keith and the SDI Foundation for a wide variety of projects including the Keith Busse School of Business and Entrepreneurial Leadership at USF.  Mr. Busse also serves on the boards of Junior Achievement of Northeast Indiana, the Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership and the Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne where he established the Steel Dynamics Fund to support community projects.  Other organizations supported by Keith include the Fort Wayne Civic Theatre, Erin’s House and the National Kidney Foundation.  Keith has been recognized with the Sagamore of the Wabash, the highest civilian award given by the Indiana governor, and he was inducted into the Indiana Academy, which recognizes the state’s most influential philanthropists; he was named Leukemia Society of America Man of the Year in 1992 in recognition of his national fund-raising record.
